Greetings fellow Boca Bay Homeowners,
I hope many of you have received and reviewed the latest newsletter. Your Board has chosen to enact many sweeping changes.
In effect are: 1) an automobile towing policy, 2) a lawn debris
removal policy and 3) a pickup truck parking policy.
While I fully understand and agree with the intent of the Board in
their actions, I feel that in some ways it is somewhat harsh,
especially in regard to enforcing the policy on pickup trucks.
The provision regarding pickup trucks has been in our HOA documents
since its inception in 1989. However, it has been overlooked by
previous administrations for the last 21 YEARS!
Attempts to correct this and and other antiquated items in our
documents has been proven to be futile do to the apathetic environment engulfing our community.
As a result, the Board feels it needs to be more assertive in these
matters. If we all had more PRIDE(as in the name of our newsletter and website) in the place where we live and raise our families, these actions would not be necessary.
Do we want to behave properly on our own or forced to be governed by a higher authority? It is always the actions of a few “bad apples” that ruins it for everyone.
How about a little “peer pressure” towards that neighbor who chooses not to play by the rules. Maybe we should embarrass those individuals by using names in our newsletters.
In regards to pickup trucks, way back in 1989, they were considered by many to be driven by “rednecks” and other undesirables. Unfortunately, this mentality still exists in some of our Board members and homeowners.
Modern pickup trucks are currently very popular and as attractive as automobiles. The people who own and drive them are from every
socioeconomic status and many are very wealthy. A new Cadillac
Escalade costs more that most of our cars, yet it is classified as a pickup truck by Boca Bay’s standards.
What really needs to be done is to develop an aesthetics review
committee, and a policy created to determine what automobiles “fit” in our community and which do not. A rusty, dented old car is permitted and a pickup truck is not!
I think I’ve done enough ranting for now. Your replies and comments
are welcome.
Signed,
AN OVERLY CONCERNED RESIDENT
